BRIAN SMOCK, PGA

 

Brian assumed the position of Head Pro at the Coronado Golf Course on February 1st, 2017.  Brian was an employee at the Coronado Golf Course and a member of their instruction team for over four years, and a customer of the course for over 30 years; Brian started golfing here at the age of 12.  Brian enjoyed the opportunity to participate in Junior Golf, Coronado High School team play and Professional competition on this course.  Today he is proud to be the courses highest grossing teaching Professional and is passionately committed to enabling others to reach their full golfing potential and maximize their enjoyment of the game.

Brian's professional playing career spans 18 years and took him all over the world.  He played professional golf on three continents, in countries that included Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Panama, Chile and Colombia.  Brian was on the Nationwide Tour (now Web.com Tour) for more than 10 years and achieved a career high world ranking of 251.  Brian has five second-place finishes on the Nationwide Tour, was the leading money winner in two different seasons on the Gateway Tour with five first place finishes and is a seven-time finalist at PGA Tour Q School.

Brian has nine course records including seven in San Diego County.  He carded his lowest round ever at the Coronado Golf Course shooting a record setting 60.

Representing the City of Coronado as the Head Pro at the Municipal Golf Course is Brian’s ultimate goal.  It enables him to enjoy his primary passion on a day-to-day basis and affords him the opportunity to have a significant and enduring impact on the quality of life for City residents.

Brian leads all facets of Golf Couse operation and is the principal spokesperson for Coronado Golf Course operations.  Brian also serves as the Head of Instruction.

CHRIS BROWN, PGA

 

Chris began playing golf at a young age, but stepped away from the game during his preteen and high school years to focus on other sports.  Chris was born in raised in the San Diego area. Chris was a 3 sport athlete in high school, who was invited to try out with multiple Major League Baseball teams. Chris choose to play football in college before a shoulder injury right before his sophomore season contributed to him stepping away from football and focusing back on golf.  Chris became a Class A PGA Professional in 2012.

Chris has been working in the golf industry for almost 20 years.  Most recently he was the Head Golf Professional at Carlton Oaks from 2011-2017.  Chris worked at Brynwood CC in Armonk, NY for the 2010 season.  Prior to that Chris held multiple positons, from Outside Service to Head Golf Professional, at The Crosby at Rancho Santa Fe, from 2001-2010.

TIM PARUN, PGA

 

Tim Parun, PGA is widely recognized as one of San Diego’s finest PGA Professionals. Tim competed on the PGA Tour, playing in 6 Major Championships.  Most recently Tim was the 2015 Southern California PGA Senior Section Champion.  He was also the San Diego Chapter PGA Player of the Year for 2003, '04, '06 & '10.

Tim was the Head Pro at Sail Ho Golf Club for 9 years where he oversaw every detail of operations.  Tim is very familiar with Coronado course operations and is also directly connected to the island community through his wife who works at the Marriott Resort.

Tim brings tremendous golf course and tournament management experience to our team, along with unprecedented maturity, leadership skills, and passion for taking care of our customers.  Tim’s low key but direct manner, unquestionable integrity and sincere passion for growing the game make him the ideal person to ensure everyone on our team understands what is expected of them and how each member of our team is critical to ensuring all of our golfers experience the ultimate golfing experience.  Tim is thrilled to be afforded the opportunity to impact the creation of a first rate golf experience everyone that visits the Course.

SHANTEL NEMECEK, LPGA

 

Shantel Nemecek, LPGA, is a 2009 graduate of the Golf Academy of America where she excelled in various aspects of golf such as teaching, marketing and sales, club fitting and repair, and tournament operations. She began her career in the San Diego golf industry in the outside service department at The Bridges at Rancho Santa Fe. In her 8 years with The Bridges, Shantel quickly promoted from outside service to become the Player's Assistant where she run the flow of the course at the first tee as the starter and marshall. Her professionalism and dedication continued to propel her forward. She was promoted to Assistant Golf Professional and Co-Manager of Outside Service. In these roles, she took over the Ladies and Juniors programs and made them thrive. Her work ethic and passion for golf continued to push her daily.

Though Shantel began her golf career professionally in 2009, she was not new to golf. Raised in Ogallala Nebraska, Shantel's passion for golf began on her family's golf course, Bayside Golf on Lake McConaughy. At the age of 14, Shantel began working with her family at her home course. Through these years, she developed a love and passion for the game which stayed with her into adulthood. After moving to San Diego in 2003, and dabbling in the corporate world of accounting, she took the leap to pursue her true passion: golf. After 14 years here, San Diego has become her home where she is now married and is raising two daughters.

Shantel brings her experience and passion to Coronado Golf Course. She has gained tremendous knowledge in all aspects of golf through her personal history and through her work at The Bridges. Her expertise in teaching, running Ladies and Juinors programs, tournament operations and outside service make her an excellent fit here at Coronado. As an Assistant Golf Professional, Shantel understands what it means to be a team player and will ensure that every golfer will have the best golfing experience while under her care. Her excitement and passion for this game light up the room and make it impossible not to enjoy golf. Shantel is excited to help you create lasting memories here at Coronado Golf Course.
